The banner for this page is based on an image taken from The Illustrated London News dated 8 December 1894. That issue featured the wedding in St Petersburg, Russia of Czar Nicholas II and Princess Alexandra of Hess. During the First World War, Nicholas commanded the Russian Army while Russia itself was governed by Czarina Alexandra and her advisor, Rasputin. Nicholas and Alexandra were later executed by the Bolsheviks on July 16, 1918; a sad demise following the glamour, pomp and ceromony of their royal wedding. |
